Becoming Mrs. Horner
I started writing this simple blog when I turned 50. My hope was to do some self discovery and start leading a healthier lifestyle. When I lost Tony, it morphed into a survival tool. And then when I survived, it felt like a way to share hope with others. Maybe I could shine a little light into someone else's darkness.
As I sit here today looking back through it all, I'm realizing that it's not about longing anymore. The change I needed has happened. Now it's about living. I've survived what I thought I couldn't. God rescued me from that and has led me to a life where I can proudly say for the first time that I feel complete and happy. He gave me a man who loves me, encourages me and will stand beside me as we go down this new path together.
Our marriage license has been filed and I am now officially Mrs. Horner. And I'm not shy or ashamed to say that I love Mrs. Horner. I love her lightness, the smile she carries, the fullness in her heart and her openness to being led wherever God calls her.
She no longer has to be in control or prepared for every possible disaster. She doesn't have to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders or prove that she's strong enough to handle everything alone. She's learning that asking for help isn't weakness, that being loved doesn't require sacrificing herself, and that sometimes the most courageous thing she can do is simply trust.
What they say is true... when you find yourself in darkness, the truth is that you've been planted. I feel like I am one of God's mustard seeds. I've pushed my way up through the soil reaching for His light and now I've sprouted. I don't know yet how tall I'll become, but I can assure you that I'll always be blooming, reaching up for God's light and sharing hope and faith as I grow.
